A BMW spokesman has announced that the firm won’t be making a supercar to take on the likes of the Audi R8 and Mercedes SLS AMG.
Talking to egmcartech.com Matt Russell, North American M Division Product Manager, said: “We didn't feel the need to make a very exclusive high-end supercar and we still don't.”
Russell went on to say that he believed BMW already made supercars but as a two-in-one package: a supercar and a sensibly sized saloon.
He explained that the outgoing M3 matches the Audi R8 on performance, braking and the like but can also carry five people and luggage.
Instead of concentrating on a super-Beemer the firm will be looking at M versions of the new 3-Series, 4-Series and, hopefully 6-Series as well as concentrating on the new eco sports car, the i8.
If you were hoping to get yourself into a full-fat BMW supercar any time soon, it looks like you’ll be disappointed.
