Nissan has unveiled the most potent version yet of the GT-R super-coupe. Called the GT-R Track Pack, it adds £10,000 to the price of the car, but adds a few things that make sure it's virtually unbeatable on a circuit.
The fully road legal car keeps the standard engine of the 2012 model year GT-R, a twin-turbo 3.0-litre unit with 542bhp, but increases performance in other ways.
Firstly it's lighter than the standard car, having had the rear seats removed and a pair of lighter, tighter racing chairs put in the front. The suspension is tweaked by stiffening the springs, although the standard adjustable dampers stay the same. And because braking performance on track is often as important as acceleration, extra cooling ducts are built into the front and rear bumpers – which Nissan says help reduce operating brake temperatures by as much as 100 degrees.
The 0-60mph time is quoted at an astonishing 2.7 seconds.
Badges on the interior and exterior separate the GT-R track pack from normal versions.
The car is on sale now, costing £84,550. That's a big increase compared to the price of a regular GT-R when the car was first launched, although it's still far, far cheaper than all the supercars it matches (and often betters) for outright performance.
